Guidelines for the monitoring of Rosalia alpina

چکیده
Rosalia alpina (Linnaeus, 1758) is a large longhorn beetle (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) which is protected by the Habitats Directive and which typically inhabits beech forests characterised by the presence of mature, dead (or moribund) and sun-exposed trees. A revision of the current knowledge on systematics, ecology and conservation of R. alpina is reported. The research was carried out as part of the LIFE MIPP project which aims to find a standard monitoring method for saproxylic beetles protected in Europe. For monitoring this species, different methods were tested and compared in two areas of the Apennines, utilising wild trees, logs and tripods (artificially built with beech woods), all potentially suitable for the reproduction of the species. Even if all methods succeeded in the survey of the target species, these results showed that the use of wild trees outperformed other methods. Indeed, the use of wild trees allowed more adults to be observed and required less intensive labour. However, monitoring the rosalia longicorn on wild trees has the main disadvantage that they can hardly be considered “standard sampling units”, as Nature Conservation 20: 165–203 (2017) doi: 10.3897/natureconservation.20.12728 http://natureconservation.pensoft.net Copyright Alessandro Campanaro et al. Novel, male-produced aggregation pheromone of the cerambycid beetle Rosalia alpina, a priority species of European conservation concern
Several recent studies have demonstrated the great potential for exploiting semiochemicals in ecology and conservation studies. The cerambycid beetle Rosalia alpina represents one of the flagship species of saproxylic insect biodiversity in Europe. In recent years its populations appear to have declined substantially, and its range has shrunk considerably as a result of forest management and ur...

In the framework of collecting and identifying of wood fungi of Iran, specimen of cup fungus from wood and debris of conifers was collected. The characteristic features of specimen were as follows: Fruit body cup-shaped, gelatinous, up to 1 cm high and to 1.5 cm wide; bright orange. Fertile surface concave. Spores sausage-shaped, smooth, up to 4-5-celled, 15.5-18 × 4-6 µm. Basidia shaped like a...

Arachidonic acid is an essential fatty acid in human nutrition. In the present study, production of arachidonicacid by Mortierella alpina CBS 754.68 was evaluated in submerged fermentation. The fermentation variableswere selected in accordance with the Plackett-Burman (PB) design and further optimized via response surface methodology (RSM). Five significant variables, namely glucose...
متن کاملDemography and Dispersal Ability of a Threatened Saproxylic Beetle: A Mark-Recapture Study of the Rosalia Longicorn (Rosalia alpina)
The Rosalia longicorn or Alpine longhorn (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) is an endangered and strictly protected icon of European saproxylic biodiversity. Despite its popularity, lack of information on its demography and mobility may compromise adoption of suitable conservation strategies. The beetle experienced marked retreat from NW part of its range; its single population survives N of the Alps a...
متن کاملHealth monitoring in employees exposed to lead: review the evidence
Introduction: Lead is a toxic metal found in the Earth's crust and has been used by humans for 7,000 years due to its high density, flexibility and strength, and low melting point. The widespread use of this metal in industry and the exposure of workers has led to widespread environmental pollution and public health problems in many parts of the world. Due to the widespread use of lead in vario...
